Spider-Man: Homecoming Loses Michael Keaton as the Villain

Robert Downey Jr. was revealed to reprise his role of Iron Man in the joint Marvel-Sony's Spider-man coming to theaters in 2017, but now word is that Michael Keaton, once rumored to play vulture, has dropped out of discussions.

According to Deadline he won’t be part of the project. So if you were looking forward to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker going up against one of the previous cinematic Batman, you’re out of luck barring some last-minute decision change. He would have been a great cast to play the villain Vulture in big screen though it's unclear if Keaton was in fact in talks to play Vulture.

Spider-Man directed by Jon Watts will make his debut in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, where, according to character descriptions, he’s personally recruited by Tony Stark to join Team Iron Man. With the billionaire-playboy-philanthropist joining Spider-Man: Homecoming, this mentoring relationship will continue. Elsewhere, Marisa Tomei will play Peter Parker’s Aunt May, Disney channel star Zendaya will play someone named Michelle, Laura Harrier (One Life to Live) will play an unspecified role, and Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel) will play Peter’s friend Manuel.

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7, 2017.
