James Gunn Wants Two Characters Owned By Fox In Guardians Of The Galaxy

Doing a live one-hour Q&A on James Gunn's Facebook page, he was asked by fans what characters from the Fantastic Four he’d like to use in a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Surprisingly, Gunn revealed that he was more interested in using the quartet’s villains than the actual heroes themselves

."I probably wouldn't add Ben Grimm to the Guardians team even if they were a part of the MCU. And of course I would love the FF to be a part of the MCU...Fox owns so many great villains and cosmic characters I would love to play around with including Annihilus -- and I think they own Kang."

Annihilus
Annihilus
Annihilus has at various times been the ruler of the Negative Zone, controlling its inhabitants via his powerful Cosmic Control Rod. He first encountered the Fantastic Four after Reed Richards discovered how to travel to the Negative Zone from Earth. Over the years he clashed with the Fantastic Four on many occasions, often with the FF foiling his plans to invade Earth. He is often the partner of Blastaar, who started out as a rival to Annihilus' rule of the Negative Zone before becoming allies.

While the character is most associated with the Fantastic Four, he’s caused massive problems for the Guradians of the Galaxy as well. In Annihilation, all the cosmic heroes had to team up to stop the villain from conquering the entire galaxy. It was a story that also featured Thanos, the villain of Avengers: Infinity War Part I and II. It’s a huge Marvel story, so it makes sense why Gunn would want to adapt the story into film.

Kang the Conqueror
Kang has no superhuman abilities, but is an extraordinary genius, an expert historical scholar, a master physicist (specializing in time-travel), engineer, and technician. Courtesy of 40th century technology, he has mastered combat and tactics, and is thoroughly versed in the principles of time travel. Kang wears highly advanced battle armor that enhances his strength; is capable of energy, hologram and force-field projection, has a 30-day supply of air and food, and the ability to control other forms of technology. It is made from alloys found in the 40th century. Via his "time-ship," Kang has access to technology from any century, and he once claimed his ship alone could destroy the Moon. He is also far more resistant to radiation than humans from the present.

Previously also James Gunn had shown interest on the character 'Kang' who is possibly the most popular Avenger's villain and in a similar live Q&A session he announced that this character owned by Fox for the first time. He said

"Shi’ar and Kang are both owned by Fox,"

Kang is most associated with being an Avengers villain, but his first appearance was in the Fantastic Four and this is why it's still Fox's property.

James Gunn is now busy filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is scheduled to hit theaters May 5, 2017.
